Irish Harry

Irish Harry

Everest Beer gets you drunk quick.
Harry 32, is married with two daughters and works with his older brother who owns the Kathmandu Irish Pub in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Harry used to work at the Red Planet Guest House for many years.  It was hard work and his job entailed him doing a mixture of everyone's responsibilities, not just his own.  Harry only saw his wife and kids for a few months each year.  They lived so far away that seeing them regularly was not possible.

Beer is good.
His brother owns the Kathmandu Irish pub and after a few years he asked his brother if he could come in on the business so he could have the chance to elevate his family's position.

After some time Harry opened a very nice garden restaurant on the top floor of the Irish pub.  Harry owns this restaurant with a partner and these days he balances his time between working at the pub downstairs and running the restaurant upstairs.
The biggest challenges with his restaurant are getting his staff to get things done.  But Harry is very thankful to his brother for giving him the chance to move up and make a better life for himself and is family.

Nepali Breakfast Set.
 100 Nepali Rupees - 1,300won

I went back to his restaurant the next day for breakfast and Harry and I chatted for a few hours and drank tea.

Meeting Harry was a good introduction to Nepali people and their outlook on life, their hardworking attitude and the difference between Nepali and Indian people.

Nepal, then India

I'm going to write two separate articles on Nepal and India.

 Why?

Because I felt those countries were very different.  Nepal was peaceful and held a deeper spiritual meaning for me than India.

Harry  is a very kind hearted man who spoke to me without a hidden agenda or expectation of some payment for his advice or time.  He recommended some interesting places to visiting during my time in Kathmandu.  He also helped me find the guest house we stayed at for several days.

India was still an amazing experience but Nepal had a lasting impression on me.

More later.

Shy Village boy, Unknown village on the way to Varanasi

Korean High School (Documentary)

This is a pretty cool doco on Koreans obsession with plastic surgery. Blame the parents I say.

Bravo on the water

Here he is. The man whom rock songs have been written. Mr John Michael Shaver. This man is a legend. Just look at his many nickname Bravo. Named after the dirt cheap champagne you can buy at GS Mart. He was a good travel buddy. He will be missed.

John shot me good

Apart from the amazing eye my girlfriend has, no one has really been able to capture a good portrait of me. I don't care about looking good in the shot but something that tells the viewer about my character. And here it is.

Nepal Ice - STRONG

Johnny and I got a little tipsy on a few of these.

Afterwards I took pics of our guesthouse kitchen and John discussed god with the Guesthouse's teenage son.

The Taj by Bravo

For someone who is not a big shooter this pic John took of the Taj Mahal is pretty good.

Props homie.
:)

China Eastern sucks

12 hour delays.  No info on when or if our flight was still going.  Crappy plastic food and mini bottles of water.  It was hell.

Luckily the nearby duty free sold cheap beer.  Drinking was entertaining while ajumas stormed the transit desk demanding answers.

Guess what's inside?

A great gift from a great girl.

(No,  it's not a dead body)

An electric mat.  It's sooooo warm I sleep extremely well.

HTC ONE X

My next phone.  This thing has a quad core tegra chip,  8 mega pixel camera,1GB of ram with 32GB of disk space.

It will be a leap from my old HTC Desire. It was top of the line two years ago. ㅠㅠ.

I will miss her.

My last truly Indian meal

The next was a hamburger with Bravo at Hard Rock Delhi. (Don't ask me why I was there.)

New Delhi Sunset

My journey was winding down.

Lunch

Some nice Israeli food.

Pushkar, India

Even though I had a bad cold it was a relaxing place to be.

Me by Bravo

John shot my favorite pic of me.  I luv it.

Back home

I've returned from my brief visit to India and Nepal. I can honestly say I've come back extremely humbled. More words later. I've started work on my first pics.

Here is a preview.
